Do people not do that anymore? I assume every sketch class is filled with those.
It was absolutely ubiquitous in my 101 and 201 improv classes and, at the same time, I remember seeing it in a lot of Maude sketches. I can’t remember seeing it recently.
I just remember how funny it was. It clearly had caught the imagination of the entire comedy community as just this magical place where any kind of crazy/sexy/scary thing you could imagine could happen.
Audiences loved it too. I remember tons of scenes where people would justify the insane character by just offhandedly saying “I met my roommate on Craigslist” and the audience would all crack the fuck up.
It’s funny how those things happen.
